New Holland Hit and Miss Engines
Wrenches - Tools
The following are New Holland Machine Company wrenches and tools provided with each engine when it shipped from the factory. It appears NHMC did rely on commercially available wrenches which might have been a cost saving solution.
Three types of hand wrenches were made by NHMC. The understanding is commercially available wrenches were also used.
All three of these hand wrenches have "NEW HOLLAND" on the back of the wrench.
- The top hand wrench was used for the feed mills and has "FEED MILL" cast into the handle.
- The bottom two wrenches were for the engines and have "ENGINE 66" and "ENGINE 68" cast into the handle. 66 and 68 was the part number found on the part lists.
Below, are three types of valve screw cap wrenches made by NHMC. The valve screw cap needed to be removed to work on the valve.
- The top 1" bar stock is for the later 4 & 5 HP engines. The tool was inserted into the cap and a large bar was places through the hole of the tool and turned to remove the valve cap.
- The bottom two valve cap tools are the "90" part number. The middle one is the older style used for the 1-1/2HP engine. At some point the tool was upgraded to the bottom "90" style. As with the top model, the tool was inserted into the cap and a large bar was places through the hole of the tool and turned to remove the cap.
